courage, success, longevity, perseverance, good fortune, prosperity, and ambition

A lovely fish, the symbolism of the Koi represents courage, success, longevity, perseverance, good fortune, prosperity and ambition. The Koi were originally developed by breeding together various types of Carp. Legend has it that in 533BC, the son of Confucius, the philosopher, was presented with a gift from King Shoko of Ro. The gift was a beautiful magoi, or better known as a black carp. The story goes that all of the beautiful koi today came from that magoi the king gave to Confucius’ son. With perseverance, the Koi swims upstream to a destiny fulfilled.
